In 1946 Merrill K. Guertin began an informal link with other out of state properties, to recommend each other to travelers. By 1962 there were 670 properties in 25 states and Canada. In 1976 Best Western went international with agreements with 411 properties in Australia and New Zealand. In 1978 expansion into European began with hotels in the UK and Ireland.
Today there are over 4,200 properties in over 80 countries worldwide, making Best Western the largest hotel chain around the globe.

At the end of the 2005 fiscal year, Best Western had 2,398 hotels in North America. Best Western welcomed 344 new hotels worldwide, and 146 of these properties are based in North America.

Recently, Best Western welcomed the new countries and territories of Malaysia and Suriname. Best Western International provides reservation and brand identity services for all of its 4,200 hotels worldwide.

Best Western has multilingual, consolidated reservation and operation centers in Phoenix, Arizona; Milan, Italy and Manila, Philippines.

Best Western also handles reservations through its website at www.bestwestern.com®. Special site features include a complete hotel guide, trip planner and a section for travel planners. In time for the 2006 summer travel season, consumers booking at www.bestwestern.com will be able to view five distinct virtual tours for every Best Western hotel in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean. Each property will feature a 360-degree display of the hotel’s exterior, a standard guest room, and a deluxe room/suite, in addition to two other areas representative of the property, such as a pool, meeting room or restaurant.

On average, bestwestern.com has been booking $1 million in revenue per day for the hotel chain since January 2005.

Mr. Francois Grenier and Mr.Silvio created the unique Fish Fountain in the Atrium. The fish statue and the surrounding granite benches and planters had been sculpted under the guidance of Mr. Francois Grenier.
